Film Review: Suicide SquadWritten by Matthew Rice in Entertainment on August 18th, 2016
Can you hear the cackle of The Joker? Suicide Squad opened in theaters last week to a fantastic opening weekend across the globe. The story of a gang of no-good-bad-guys forced to save the world and right their wrongs, sounds like a good idea but does the film hold up to expectations?
Synopsis: “It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?” [Credit IMDB]
Verdict 3/5: Unfortunately the film does not hold up to expectations. Although the first 45 minutes are good (explaining who everyone is – setting up the premise of the film) the follow through is short & kind of boring. The film drags on to reveal that the Joker is only in the film for a combined total of 15 minutes and Cara Delevingne’s character (Enchantress) is actually the main bad guy and main character! Worth a watch, but maybe wait for the DVD.
Praise can be said for Margot Robbie who nails Harley Quinn & Jared Leto who plays a very different (not bad different, just different) Joker to previous attempts.
