The Do’s And Don’ts Of Dating In 2018 – By WomenWritten by Mary Mullock in Men's Style Life Uncategorised on February 12th, 2018
How to do date night right – by the women of the office
We decided to call upon the ladies in the Jacamo office to tell us just what makes the perfect date. It’s not just for Valentines; this is a swipe right life moment – a man’s guide for life. Whether it’s securing that second date, or adding some fire to date night – which isn’t Nando’s hot sauce, we’ve discovered the holy grail of dating.
The Dos and Don’ts of dating in 2018.
Picking the date venue
Getting the venue right can make or break the date. Going for drinks is the most popular date choice with 42% of the vote, followed by dinner with 31%.
Impress her by picking somewhere she hasn’t been before. Do your research and check social media for newly opened or secret bars in your area. Unusual spots could break the ice – 15% said they would enjoy an activity or playing a game on the date.
HOT SPOTS – WHERE TO GO ON DATE NIGHT
Newcastle – As You Like It:
Situated in the Jesmond area – this bar offers a bit of everything with three floors filled with quirky furniture, a garden terrace, and great cocktails.
Manchester – Behind Closed Doors:
Finding this hidden gem should leave your date impressed. Underground in the Northern Quarter, it’s cosy and cool in equal measures. You can relax in dimly lit surroundings and have fun ordering drinks from the bar via retro telephones.
London – Pop Brixton:
With the whole of London as your oyster, it’s a hard pick – but Pop Brixton is the ideal relaxed spot with a buzzing vibe and wide choice of food and drink options. Depending on how the date goes, there’s DJ’s playing to take you later into the night.
First date expectations
Rewind to where it all began – we’re guessing that probably wasn’t in Greggs.*
Of course things change over the course of relationships, but first impressions count – 58% said they would expect you to pay on a first date vs 35% who said they would prefer to go dutch. You can read the date vibes on this one – but there are definitely some brownie points to be gained from picking up the first bill.
Definitely don’t ask your date to do a coin toss for the tab if you want a second date – like London Hughes’ date on E4’s celebs go dating!

Biggest date turn offs
50% said that hearing about their date’s gym and protein powder chronicles makes for the dullest date.
We’re advised to leave this talk to your PT.
Make sure you whip out enough questions because 31% are also put off when their dates don’t take time to find out more about them.
What do they look for in a date?
50% said finding that elusive ‘spark’ was their top priority. It’s a mixture of banter and attraction which is going to elevate the date from good to great. A sense of humour helps of course – with 39% saying wit was their biggest turn on, followed by a good sense of style.
What to wear on a date
73% say smart casual wins the what-to-wear-date outfit dilemma, describing a shirt as “essential”.
T-shirts were not off the table though – with 15% preferring the casual, everyday men’s style to a smarter look. Take note of the venue to influence your look. If you’re heading to a pub, the style will feel naturally more relaxed, whereas a cocktail bar requires a shirt.
