THE KEY TO HAPPY FEET: A PROPER SHOE FIT

A proper fit is more than just comfort… finding a pair that fits your feet right can prevent pain, improve posture and avoid injury. You wouldn’t play football in boots too small, so it shouldn’t be any different from your day-to-day kicks. Plus, find a pair that fits, and you’ll spend less money on replacing shoes that wear out too fast!

UNDERSTANDING YOUR FEET

When shopping for a new pair of shoes, there are multiple things to consider like your foot shape, volume and arch type. Depending on your foot shape, certain shoes might be better for your feet. Flat feet? You might need wider shoes for better support. High arches? Opt for shoes with good arch support. Follow these simple rules and it’ll make shoe shopping a breeze.

SIGNS YOUR SHOES ARE GIVING YOU THE SIDE-EYE

Don’t think you have your fit nailed down? These are the signs to look out for… If shoes are too big, you’ll find issues such as heel slippage, excessive toe room and bunching of material at the toes (e.g. Heel pops out) or if your shoes are too small you might get issues such as pinching and pressure points, with your toes feeling cramped or curled. Nobody wants to look like they’re walking on eggshells… Your feet carry you everywhere, so treat them right!

FINDING THE RIGHT FIT

Here are some of our top tips when achieving the perfect fit:

•  Getting your feet measured professionally, even if you think you know your foot size, is our #1 tip. Can’t get to a professional? We’ve even compiled a guide on how-to measure your feet from home

•   Size can vary by brand so it’s better to focus on fit over labelled size. Our size guides are a great starting point to find the right fit.

•   Check the shoe width and ensure the shoe accommodates the widest part of your foot for the proper fit. If you find your toes are rubbing, shoes feel too narrow etc… it’s worth considering wide-fit shoes for improved comfort.

•   Shoes shouldn’t be expected to stretch over time (unless they’re leather). While they can be comfortable once ‘broken in’, they should fit properly from the get-go.

•   It’s super important to walk around in the shoes to assess comfort and avoid any rubbing or chafing.

•   Our final tip is to check the space in the toe box and heel for proper fit (using the finger width reference). There should be a finger-width space between the longest toe and the shoe’s end.

So, what’s the main takeaway? Look after your feet! There’s always time to finish your look with a perfect pair of kicks… but style doesn’t have to come at a compromise.
